POSITION TITLE: CHILDCARE LEAD TEACHER
BUILDING LOCATION: Perry Early Childhood Building

   **This is a full-time, year-round position.

   **FULLY PAID BC/BS Health Insurance and Delta Dental Insurance.
PAYMENT RATE:  $12.85 - $15.25 hourly rate based on experience & education
WORKING HOURS:  40 hrs.; Full time
BENEFITS ELIGIBLE:  Yes
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt position
EVALUATED BY:  Childcare Program Director


PURPOSE: The Childcare Lead Teacher is responsible for:

  • Planning and preparation for the childcare classroom.
  • Creation of lesson plans based on the Kansas Early Learning Standards.
  • Care and supervision of children
  • Timely verbal and written communication with families including daily reports
  • Day to day upkeep of the classroom including light cleaning, storing and organization of materials.
  • Compliance to all KDHE regulations within the classroom.


The Childcare Lead Teacher will work as directed by the Childcare Program Director. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and is at least three years older than the oldest youth in the group.
  • High School diploma or equivalent AND one (1) of the four (4) options below;

            o (A) Five sessions of observation for not less than 2.5 consecutive hours per
            observation in licensed preschools or childcare center and (B) one year of
            teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of
            supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools.
            o (A) Seven to nine semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in
            child development or early childhood education and three month’s teaching
            experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of supervised
            practicum in licensed centers or preschool.

  • Must have knowledge of the licensing regulations governing school-age programs.
  • Valid driver’s license (prefer Kansas).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Health and Tuberculin Certificates on file (after employee offer is made).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must at all times meet the requirements specified in K.A.R. 28 4-429(b), (c), (d) or (e) and who is responsible for implementing and supervising the program.
  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment for children.
  • Clean classroom and maintain an acceptable and safe environment. This includes daily custodial duties of the classroom space.
  • Displays adaptability in new situations.
  • Displays good judgment in decision-making situations.
  • Responds positively to constructive suggestions for improvement.
  • Utilizes time constructively and effectively.
  • The ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
  • Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Ensure that all activities conforms to childcare guidelines.
  • Assist in the maintenance and inventory of materials.
  • The ability to communicate clearly.
  • Must have the skills and abilities to implement the childcare program of activities.
  • The ability to foster positive, healthy relationship with children or youth.
  • The ability to supervise and give directions to the children and youth assigned to the group.
  • The ability to supervise group activities during all hours when children and youth are
  • present.
  • The ability to provide supervision and direction to an assistant group leader if one is assigned.
  • Must complete required professional development training as required.
  • Serves as a role model for children in behavior, appearance and grooming
  • Display dependability and punctuality in attendance.
  • Maintains confidentiality of classroom, student and family information.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with other staff members.
  • Ability to react to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other duties as assigned by the Childcare Program Director.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk,
